School district cancels basketball game, dance over threat

Westfield Center, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio school district canceled a Saturday basketball game and a winter dance because of an undisclosed threat made against the high school.

Cloverleaf Local Schools Superintendent Daryl Kubilus sent a private alert to members of the school community Saturday that said the events were canceled after conferring with the Medina County Sheriff’s Office, the Akron Beacon Journal reported.

The Cloverleaf Community Recreation Center, located near the high school, was evacuated Saturday afternoon during a volleyball tournament. The school district’s website said it would remain closed “until further notice.”

Kubilus in the alert said he hoped people understood the cancellations were prompted by “an abundance of caution.” He said an update would be provided Monday.
