Annual Sheriff’s Auction
This weekend’s sheriff auction offers up a year’s worth of unclaimed property.
Saturday’s auction has vehicles, tools, jewelry and many other miscellaneous items that were abandoned or forfeited through the course of the year. Once the property has been given the okay to be sold, it is available for purchase by the public.
"We have to publish a notice in the newspaper of the unclaimed items so if anyone does have a claim they can come forward at that time and then we have to apply to common pleas court to get an order to destroy or sell and in this case, it’s for the sale," said Muskingum County Sheriff Capt. Jeff LeCocq.
Money earned will either go into the county fund or to local law enforcement.
"We have to take anything that came in from a forfeited item in a drug case has to go back into the law enforcement trust fund and then that money is in turned used for law enforcement training and equipment, if it’s just abandoned, unclaimed property it has to be sold and go to the county general fund," said LeCocq.
The sale will take place at the Muskingum County Sheriff Impound at 1400 Newark Road. Bidding begins at 10 a.m. A list of the auction items can be found at www.auctionzip.com.
