Library Announces New Policies

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The Muskingum County Library System announced today some new policies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Marketing Director Sean Fennell says that the policies are in place to make the library more accessible during this trying time period.

“We’re very excited to be able to start opening up our book drops. Our buildings will still remain closed but this gives people the opportunity to maybe return some of the items you’ve had for a while. All of our book drops are open at all of our locations and we are checking those regularly. However, don’t rush, don’t worry, we are still giving people a lot of grace period here. Through the month of May, all of the items returned will be free of late fees.”, Fennell said Tuesday morning.

When the library does reopen there will be a new curbside policy for picking up and returning books.

“One of the options we are looking at as part of the phases to reopen to the public is our contact list curbside. What that means is that you can place holds, and that we will then deliver them to you in your car when you drive up to the John McIntire Library. That’s something we’re starting at the John McIntire Library first, we don’t have a date set in stone but we’re hoping for mid-May.”

When the library does reopen there will be numerous safety precautions in place for the staff and visitors.
