Campaign Helps Local Food Banks
Weight Watchers unveils its latest campaign to help fight obesity and hunger.
Lose for Good is an initiative that lets members participate in an effort to battle hunger and malnutrition. As members shed pounds weight watchers will donate up to one million dollars to hunger fighting organizations
"There’s a lot of people that are really hungry in our area and what we’re doing, we’re stepping up to the plate and teaching people how to help other people, so for every member that comes in we’re asking that for every pound they lose we donate a pound of food so that we can give to help for the hungry," said Marie Carter, Weight Watchers Ambassador.
The program runs until October 20th and during that time registration to join Weight Watchers is free. The goal is to get as many people signed up as possible to fill food pantries across the country.
"There’s really an increased need for food and that’s why the pantries are doing a great job and of course they have to have people like Weight Watchers come in and help them so it ends up being a win-win situation," said Carter.
The pantries appreciate the help because they often struggle to provide nutritious food to those in the area the nationwide campaign will make a huge difference for all food banks in southeastern Ohio.
"We’re heading to the winter season, the holiday season and we always experience more demand also the way things have been going with our local economy we’ve had more and more demand on all of our food pantries so it’s going to be a great help," said Eastside Ministry Program Chairperson Sally Goins.
