Genesis, Coconis and WHIZ Team To Provide Mammograms

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Coconis Furniture, Genesis HealthCare Center, the Muskingum County Community Foundation and the WHIZ Media Group are teaming up to help provide mammograms to women in need.
For several years the groups have come together to provide breast cancer screenings for breast cancer awareness month. Nurse Pebbles Thornton has more information.
“We’re really excited to do our breast cancer campaign with free mammograms again this year through the month of October. We’ve partnered with WHIZ and with Coconis to bring this to the community. You can stop in at any Coconis location or the Genesis Cancer care center and pick up a voucher. You’ll fill out some personal information and then turn back in while you’re there. After you’ve turned your voucher back in, someone from the Cancer Care Center will be calling you to ask you some screening questions to see if you qualify for grant funding and how we’re going to get your mammogram scheduled.”
Last year this program helped over 80 women get mammograms. Tom Strock of WHIZ says that the program is a yearly tradition that he looks forward to.
“It started just as a breast cancer awareness program on WHIZ. Coconis joined us five years ago in 2016 and started the free mammogram program. They’ve had contributors from the furniture manufacturer world, Serta Simmons has been involved and a number of different companies. The free mammogram program now through Coconis Furniture has funded nearly two-hundred free mammograms for women who otherwise couldn’t afford it.”
If you’re looking to contribute to the program through the Community Foundation you need to indicate that your donation is for mammograms.
