MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio-A United States flag was transported from Washington D.C. and raised at the Muskingum County Juvenile court this morning.

A ceremony was held featuring Sheriff Matt Lutz, Judge Eric Martin, state representative Adam Holmes and lead by U.S. Representative Bill Johnson. The flag was raised by a group of JROTC cadets from Zanesville High School.

“As I said in our ceremony, I’m just so proud that we have teenage, high school, junior ROTC cadets who raised our flag here today that will fly over our court for years to come, over our juvenile court, which is especially important. I couldn’t be more proud, and I have to believe that our county would be proud of these young men and women.”, Judge Eric Martin said of the JROTC members.

The flag was delivered by representative Bill Johnson of Ohio’s 6th district. Johnson recounted stories of his time in the military to exemplify why flag raising is so important to him and the rest of the nation.

“As I mentioned to the group gathered here this morning: the raising of the American flag, to me, is a sacred ceremony. America stands as the guardian at the gate of freedom, and if it weren’t for America we would have nowhere else to go, because we are the fairest, freest nation on the planet, those are the values that we stand for, and that flag represents that.”, Johnson told reporters.

Johnson reiterated that he sees the JROTC members present at the ceremony as America’s future.
