Fuel Spill Off Of State Route 555

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio-A truck transporting fuel crashed off of State Route 555 near Cannelville Road Tuesday afternoon.
The State Highway Patrol and the Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency responded. The crash produced a leak in the truck.
“Just before one o’clock today our officers were called here to state route 555. The accident scene is just south of where we are now, near milepost 3 in Brush Creek Township. We have a fuel delivery truck that is currently well off the road and on its side. The truck is actively leaking what we believe to be three to four different types of fuel.”, Sergeant Jeffrey Jirles of the State Highway Patrol told reporters.
Sgt. Jirles said the driver of the tanker truck , 43-year-old Jason Kirkbride of New Concord, was flown from the scene to Grant Hospital in Columbus with serious injuries.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. E-M-A Director Jeff Jadwin says the fuel spill has been cleaned up and State Route 555 was opened to traffic as of 6:15 pm.
