Michael T. Smitley

Michael “Mike” Troy Smitley, 47 of Spring Hill, TN, formerly of Zanesville, passed away, Sunday, February 21, 2021, at his home. He was born Monday, July 2, 1973, in Zanesville, the son of George M. Smitley and Brenda (Buchanan) Wolfe. He married Jessica (Bryson) Smitley on Saturday, February 11, 2017.
Mike was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was employed with General Motors Corporation for over 23 years and worked in several parts of the country for them. Mike was a humble, gentle and genuine man with a kind and playful spirit with a great sense of humor. He loved to travel, be with people, and never met a stranger.
Mike is survived by his wife: Jessica Smitley; his mother: Brenda (Dave) Wolfe; his father: G.M. (Sandy) Smitley of Florida; one daughter: Heaven L. Smitley of Zanesville; three grandchildren: Bryer, Ariel and Naomi Smitley; one brother: Brent (Erin) Smitley of Zanesville; his mother-in-law: Sallie Fullerman of Austintown, one sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Gina (Tracy) Cooper of Salem; step sisters: Dionne (Brian Miller) Wolfe of Zanesville, Jennifer (Scott) Wilson of Zanesville, one step-brother: Michael (Courtney) Wolfe of Westerville, and nieces and nephews: Kailynn Kuhn, Cassandra (Jaret) Landerman, Clayton Smitley, Colton Smitley, Carly Smitley, Cyrena Cooper, and Bryce & Landon Cooper.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Friends may call 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday, March 1, 2021, at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 2, 2021, with Rev. Darren Tolbert officiating. Due to current health conditions social distancing must be observed and everyone is required to wear a mask. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Muskingum County Veterans Council or the Muskingum County Animal Shelter Society in Mike’s memory. Burial will follow Pleasant Grove Cemetery with the United States Navy, VFW Post 1058 and American Legion Post 29 conducting full military honors.
