Muskingum County Center for Seniors holds Memorial Day Drive-Thru Picnic for Senior Citizens

Picnic

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Muskingum County Center for Seniors held a Red, White and Blue Senior Drive-Thru Picnic this morning for the seniors of the citizen center in Zanesville.

The senior citizen center has been closed for 15 months due to the pandemic. In honor of the upcoming holiday, community members handed out lunches for its members.

“We’re doing something nice for our seniors. We want to get them out of the house, we want to give them a nice picnic lunch and kick off the Memorial Day weekend just right… Maybe the center is going to be open. They can see light at the end of the tunnel and the center can be open. We can start doing bingo again and square dances. That is eminent, it’s just around the corner. We’re excited about that and we are feeling the excitement of the people coming through here,” Muskingum County Center for Seniors Interim Director David Boyer said.

One thousand lunches were given out in bags decorated by Zanesville elementary school children. The lunches included hotdogs, macaroni salad, chips, cookies and water.

“Oh, they’re wonderful people… I miss them, going to the senior center,” Senior Citizen of the Muskingum County Center for Seniors Beulah Pritchard said.

The event had help from many different social welfare services and agencies. The center hopes to reopen soon.
