Memorial Weekend Drivers returning Home

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- As Memorial Day weekend comes to a close, many drivers are still on the roads returning home.
As motorists travel home, troopers are reminding drivers to utilize their safety belts and be responsible by designating a sober driver.
“As we’re seeing people return from wherever they were at for the weekend, there is going to be a lot more traffic and obviously that means people want to get home safely… There might be the propensity or the idea that we need to hurry up and get home. We want to go home and get home as soon as possible. That can lead to things like speeding, being distracted while driving and that’s what we want to discourage. We want to make sure everyone is driving the speed limit, driving sober and not distracted,” OSHP Trooper Brice Nihiser said.
The OSHP has taken part in a 6-State Trooper Project in efforts to provide security services in the areas of highway safety, criminal patrol and intelligence sharing. A big focus is reminding drivers to utilize their safety belts.
“With the holiday, there are things we continue to see, killing people on Ohio roadways. People are not driving sober and people are not wearing their seatbelts. Those are the two most important things we’re going to remind motorists. We’re going to be out and making sure that all of that is happening,” Nihiser said,
OSHP troopers remind everyone as they return home from the holiday weekend to drive sober and not be distracted.
