MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- United States Senator Sherrod Brown visited Zanesville this afternoon to inform the public about the American Jobs Plan.

Senator Brown is pushing his colleagues in Congress to pass this proposal. The American Jobs Plan would improve the nation’s infrastructure, affordable housing, manufacturing and create good-paying jobs.

“Our parents and our grandparents left us with infrastructure that was the envy of the world, we were clearly number one in the world in providing infrastructure, that we think mostly, there’s some of it that we think about the interstates going across I-70 and going across Muskingum County. We also think of our water and sewer systems and all that that does. We now rank, in some rankings, 13th in the world in infrastructure,” U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown said.

Additionally, six other mayors joined alongside Senator Brown including Zanesville Mayor Don Mason.

“We need funding for construction jobs, whether it’s bridges. In our case in Zanesville, we had a double landslide. We’re trying to fix a road called Dug Road. We have environmental issues with Brown Fields that we’re trying to clean up that don’t meet any federal or state guidelines now… But construction jobs are living wage jobs. Those really pay for the mortgage or pay for the rent. But even more importantly, those construction jobs give that person a lifetime job skill that they can take from job to job to job and have a living wage,” Zanesville Mayor Don Mason said.

Senator Brown said if the bill is passed that the federal funds received will be decided on a formula along with other grants and provisions.
