Animal Shelter Society Names Pet of the Week

The Animal Shelter Society has named the Pet of the Week this week, but with a little twist.
It’s not just one animal, but forty. The shelter currently has an overabundance of kittens ranging from eight weeks to six months, along with a handful of adults who are looking for a home as well.
“We really don’t have the Pet of the Week per se. We have lots of kittens for Pet of the Week. We have probably about 40 kittens in the facility right now, and probably about another 100 waiting to come in. So, we are, as of Monday, we will run a special for kittens. We won’t have exact detail on pricing until Monday, so feel free to give the shelter a call. But in the meantime, visit our website animalsheltersociety.org to visit all of the available kittens we do have and submit an application,” said Animal Care Manager, Rebecca Hunt.
With the holiday weekend here, Hunt also gave some tips to keeping your pet safe in the middle of the celebrations. It is always beneficial to make sure that your pets microchip has your most updated information attached to the bar code and to make sure your pet has a safe, preferably enclosed space to sleep and relax in. Along with that, Hunt emphasized the need to have a functioning collar.
“So the biggest thing is, ya know, make sure you have a good collar on your pet. One of the favorite ones that we like here, or I like personally, are martingale collars. They are regular collars that go on but when they pull, it kind of creates a little action so they can’t back out of their collar versus just the regular collars they can slip their head through. You can buy these at We Lov Pets,” added Hunt.
Hunt also added that every animal that is available for adoption is spayed and neutered, up to date on rabies shots if they are old enough, leukemia and FIV tested, and up to date on vaccine and flea prevention.
