Intel to Build on Site in Licking County

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted joined Jobs Ohio in announcing that leading global semiconductor manufacturer Intel Corporation has chosen a site in Licking County as the home of its most advanced semiconductor manufacturing facilities in the world.
According to a press release Intel plans to invest more than $20 billion to build two state of the art factories by 2025. The project will be the largest single private sector company investment in Ohio’s history. Licking County Commissioner Tim Bubb said that this project is just the beginning for the area.
“This and the growth that we’re seeing, the other high tech growth that we’re seeing in the region I believe is transformational for Licking County. It’s transformational for Central Ohio. We’re way way past the rust belt in Ohio. We’re now a destination. I believe that we’re going to be a destination now,” said Licking County Commissioner Tim Bubb.
Intel said the new facilities will generate more than 20,000 jobs including 3,000 direct Intel jobs earning $135,000 a year and 7,000 construction jobs over the course of the build. The project’s expected to add 2.8 billion annual gross state product.
“I think what we have is an enthusiastic workforce. We have people that are willing to adapt, change. There’s growth that’s coming. There’s challenges with that growth and obviously there’s some resistance. I think there’s always that have a little bit of fear of the unknown and certainly fear of something large, but I think for the most part the people that I represent recognize just what a phenomenal opportunity this is. This is huge for the entire country,” said State Senator Jay Hottinger of Ohio District 31.
The initial manufacturing facilities will be located on a 926-acre site in Licking County.
