McConnell Found Guilty

A Columbus man was sentenced this week for his role in putting a local man in the hospital and terrifying his family on Bates Street in Zanesville.

31-year-old Juan McConnell was sentenced to 36 and and one-half years in prison. A Muskingum County earlier found him guilty of attempted murder, felonious assault, discharging a firearm into a habitation and discharging a firearm over a roadway.

Officials said McConell was parked outside the Bates Street trailer when the victim arrived home. Authorities said the victim confronted him about keeping his behavior away from his family. The dispute turned into a fistfight and with McConnell threatening his victim that he was going to call his brothers and the victim was “dead”.

23 bullets were shot into the home with one striking the victim in the arm. McConnell’s brothers Terrel is serving 16 and a half years and Jamarr is serving 26 and a half years as the trigger man who conspired with McConnell in the attack.

In addition to the brothers, Gary “Bubby” Workman was convicted of permitting drug abuse. Workman forfeited his trailer at 725 Bates St., and the trailer was consequently demolished and hauled away by Muskingum County officials in conjunction with community partners.
