MAYSVILLE, Ohio – This afternoon, Maysville High School had a mock accident demonstrated.

High school juniors and seniors were targeted to view the act to promote driver safety.

Students played as actors and real officials came to the scene to show what would really happen in the event of an emergency.

Muskingum County Sheriff, Matt Lutz says the demonstration is meant to be very realistic.

“What they seen today is what actually happens out on the street. The equipment we’re bringing off the trucks, the cars, the cutting, the spreading, the removing of the passengers and injured, putting them in the squads and everything, so we’re trying to give them a realistic view of what happens and to have this community come together… all these volunteers probably were donating their time today and that is the kind of community we live in.”

Many area schools participate in  mock accidents to keep teens from distracted or impaired driving.

The sheriff also insisted that young drivers stay focused while driving.

“For all those out there that are driving is that its very easy to get distracted. There’s a lot of things that contribute to that and they need to be focused on what they’re doing, especially at their age if they get other people in the car, while their going to prom it’s very easy to get distracted and we’re trying to make sure they don’t do that,” he said.

There were appearances from Newton Township and South Zanesville Fire department, Muskingum County Sheriff’s office, and Thompson Funeral home.

The demonstration took place today, to encourage young drivers to safely prepare for prom this weekend.
