Employees of Owens- Brockway Glass Company Hold Mock Strike

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Employees of the Owens- Brockway Glass Container company participated in a mock strike this afternoon.
They have been rallying on State and Main street to get the attention and support of the community.
There are around 400 employees working for the company, who supply glass products for major wine and spirits.

Jordan Wilkes, president of the Manufacturing Union at Owens Brockway says that the company should be more fair during negotiations.
“They want to increase our insurance by 50%, they didn’t want to give us a raise at all but after two weeks of negotiating, we only got them up to about 2% for 3 years, so I mean we’re just trying to get a fair contract. We’ve got 8% inflation right now, we’ve got gasoline across the country rising up, everything else is going up, food, electricity. We’re just trying to get a raise so that we can raise our families and survive,” he told us.
Employees insist they are not asking for more than their fair share, and they do not wish to formally strike.
The members of the union will be gathering every week until a more acceptable contract is negotiated.
