Local Parks Host Local Performing Arts Events

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum Valley Park District was formed to provide natural, recreational spaces to encourage people to spend time outdoors.
Park District Administrative Assistant Michelle Illing explains how the Park District works with local organizations to hold outdoor events in search of ways to draw people to the parks.
“This weekend we have Twain’s Tales and that’s a Theater in the Park performance by Homegrown Players. So they’re doing that on August 13, at Westview Community Park. That’s located on Dresden Road. That show starts at 7,” Illing said.
The park district has worked with the Literacy Council in the past to promote literacy at the parks and this year the Homegrown Players and a musical therapist have asked to use the outdoor space to demonstrate their forms of art.
“On Sunday, we’re doing an event that is with the Muskingum County Literacy Council and we’ve partnered with a few other groups that have reached out and we’ll be doing a read-along where children can get free books from the literacy council,” Illing said. “And then we will have a music station set up so they can play drums or tambourine, she has an assortment of instruments. And then we have a make and take art table.”
Sunday’s Activities will take place 2 p.m. at Mission Oaks Gardens. For further details about the Muskingum Valley Park District and its upcoming events you can visit their website.
