Pitcock Fails to Advance

After spelling both his words correctly during Wednesday’s preliminary rounds of the Scripps National Spelling Bee Maysville’s Matthew Pitcock failed to advance to the semi-finals. 

Those chosen to move forward not only had to spell correctly on stage Wednesday, but had to also score well on a computerized vocabulary test.

The words Pitcock spelled Wednesday included philippic and solon.
