Emerson Founds, 94, of Zanesville, Ohio passed away Saturday, December 10, 2022 at the Oaks at Northpointe. Emerson was born March 25, 1928 to the late Joie and Elsie (Barton) Founds, in Akron, Ohio. In addition to his parents, Emerson is also preceded in death by his son, Donald Founds; granddaughter, Melissa Founds; and siblings, Lillian (Gene) Shaw, Weldon (Rosemary) Founds, Leah (Bill) McCurdy, Virgil Founds and Garrett Founds.
Emerson is survived by his son, Jon (Starla) Founds; grandchildren, Kevin Founds and Grace Founds; great-granddaughter, Emily Founds; sister, Evelyn Gotschall; sisters-in-law, Wanda Founds and Betty Founds; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other loved ones.
In 1936 his family moved to Chandlersville where he graduated from Chandlersville High School in 1946. Emerson went on to work as a tool and die maker before taking his retirement from Burnham. He was a self taught musician who played guitar, keyboard and harmonica. Emerson was elected into the Muskingum County Country Music Hall of Fame. He played country music and square dances in the 1950’s and 60’s. In the 1980’s and 90’s, Emerson traveled around the United States and Mexico with a gospel music group.
Emerson will be deeply missed by all who knew him. You may call on the family Wednesday, December 14, 2022 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., funeral service to follow at 12 p.m., at Burrell Funeral Services, in Zanesville. Minister Ivan Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Chandlersville Cemetery. BURRELL FUNERAL SERVICES is serving the family.
