ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Library System holds many events throughout the year that seek ways to make literacy appeal to everyone.

MCLS Marketing and Communications Director Sean Fennell announced an event for tweens and teens that will take place, which aims to encourage education through imagination.

“So we have a ‘Dungeons and Dragons 101’ program coming up, specifically on roleplaying,” Fennell said. “It is this Wednesday in the evening-afternoon around 4-to-5 p.m. It is a really wonderful time for the kids to come in and kind of learn some of the cool skills that D&D allows them to learn honestly.”

Dungeons and Dragons is a fantasy, tabletop, roleplaying game that offers many educational components to it. Such as: creative problem solving, storytelling, mathematics, along with other skills that many kids find appealing when presented from a different perspective.

“So for this particular D&D program at the library, we’re really looking for about 8-to-10 to 18-years-old for attendees so they can kind of grasp the concepts as well,” Fennell said. “So it should be a really fun time and it’s really more of an introduction to D&D as well.”

Fennel noted that D&D makes education and literacy fun by gamifying the important skills that children need and encourages them to engage in learning.
