New(s) Reader Circle coming to the MCLS

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Muskingum County Library System is getting ready to host the first session of their New(s) Reader’s Circle.
The New(s) Reader’s Circle is for adults 18 and up and participants will read up on current events and trends from the publisher “New Reader Press.”
Monica Quinn, the Adult Literacy Specialist at the John McIntire Library, said this is for anyone wanting to brush up on their comprehension skills.
“The newspaper is called ‘News for You’ and it is a simplified version of the news,” Quinn said. “It has the same content, just written with more approachable vocabulary, it also has different comprehension activities and guided questions. It even has a crosswords puzzle like a real newspaper.”
Quinn said they brought this program to the library to help increase literacy in our area.
“There are a lot of folks who struggle with literacy,” Quinn said. “Muskingum County has about 10% of people who have low literacy. This is a fun and approachable way to get together and practice those skills. It’s also just a great way for people to have fellowship and come together.”
The New(s) Reader Circle will meet on the second Tuesday of each month. There will be a meeting held at 10:30 to 11:30 AM and another meeting held later in the day from 5:30 to 6:30PM. If you are interested in signing up for the New(s) Reader’s Circle, you can head to the library’s website.
