John L. Green, 78, of Zanesville, died Thursday evening, January 11, 2024, at his home.

Born August 28, 1945, in Coshocton, he was a son of the late Raymond and Gertrude (Lapp) Green and a 1964 graduate of Adamsville High School.  John retired after 32 years of service from AK Steel, was a past volunteer firemen for the Adamsville Fire Department and a United States Vietnam Veteran.  John was an active member of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association, Tri-County Horseshoe Pitchers Association, Ohio Chapter of the North Carolina Blind Pigs Horseshoe Club.  He was lifetime member of the Old Steam & Gas Club, Inc of Dresden, Fraternal Order of Eagles #302, American Legion Post #29, and the National Rifle Association.

Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Mary J. (Archibald) Green, whom he married on October 17, 1970; three children, Terry “Waldo” (Amy) Green, Troy “Squeek” (Shannon) Green, and Tricia Mullins; six grandchildren, Abby (Jenny) Kees, Katlie (Logan Spinks) Mullins, Larry Mullins, Ashley (James Sheets) Green, Christopher Green,  and Taylor Green; bonus granddaughter, Erin Meyers; three great grandchildren, Journi, Kyler, and Kambrii; three siblings, Kathleen Hootman, Tom Green and Tony (Wanda) Green; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two great granddaughters, Adalynn Grace Sheets, Michaela Breanne Spinks; a son-in-law, Steven Mullins; ten siblings, Charles, Floyd, Homer, Gerald, Dale, Robert, Harold, Janice, James and a stillborn brother.

Friends and family may call, Monday, January 15, 2024, 2-4PM & 6-8PM at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM, Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the funeral home with Pastor William Pittman officiating.

A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.

John will be laid to rest at Fairview Community Christian Church Cemetery, Adamsville with full military honors held by the American Legion Post 29 and Zanesville VFW Post 1058.
