Perry County Children Services Breaks Stigma with School Outreach Program

ZANESVILLE, OH – A school outreach program in Perry County is looking to help families break the stigma of Children Services.

Over the last year the Perry County Children Services have partnered with the 4 school districts within the county to have a Child Welfare Case worker at each elementary school.

Amy Frame, the Director of the Perry County Children Services, said these case workers will be focusing on prevention work.

“We wanted to drop some of those barriers for families,” Frame said. “Increase communication with the schools and families and also work towards that stigma that’s often associated with Child Services.”

Frame said she has worked primarily in Perry County over the last 20 years and this program was designed to keep families together.

“Outcomes for families who enter our system through the traditional channels are not always the best,” Frame said. “This program is designed to keep people away from the front door, to maybe prevent some traumatic things from happening to kids and families before they ever occur, to build resilience in our kids through programs that keep them out of our custody and keep families together.”

Frame said they also offer clothing, food, and gas vouchers for families in need through this program.
