Bartlett “Bart” Hagemeyer, Jr.

Bartlett Hagemeyer, Jr., 94, of Zanesville, passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones following a brief illness on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Genesis Hospital. He was born August 26, 1929, in Cincinnati, the son of Bartlett Hagemeyer, Sr. and Margaret (Alcorn) Hagemeyer. He married the love of his life, Kathleen “Kate” (Werden) Hagemeyer, on February 12, 1955.
Bart graduated from Lancaster High School and was a member of the Ohio National Guard. He attended Ohio Wesleyan University and enlisted in the United States Air Force. While serving his county, Bart was a pilot, flying fighter jets and transport planes. He enjoyed being a test pilot for several new aircraft and completed his aviation career having advanced to the rank of Captain.
Following his service time, Bart began a career in banking. During this time he continued his education receiving his Doctorate of Finance from Northwestern University. While in the banking industry, he served as trust officer with several institutions. Bart finished his career as a Revenue Officer with the Internal Revenue Service.
In his leisure time, Bart, along with Kate, enjoyed owning their own private aircraft and touring the county. They especially enjoyed antiquing and collecting vintage clothing, furniture and radios which they proudly displayed in their former home, The Putnam Manse.
Bart was first and foremost a gentleman, a kind soul and a true friend to many.
He is survived by his wife of over 68 years, Kate Hagemeyer; one son, Bartlett “Buddy” (Jonas) Hagemeyer; several loving nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
In addition to his parents, Bart was preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Marie Hagemeyer; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard & Helen Hagemeyer, and his sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth & Bob Crook.
Services will be held at a later date.
