Honor Flight to Recognize Local Veterans
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Honor Flight is an organization that celebrates senior, military-veterans for their service, sacrifice and selfless conduct.
Honor Flight Columbus Executive Director Beth Johnson explained how an upcoming event is aimed to honor veterans from here in Southeastern Ohio.
“Honor Flight is a national organization,” Johnson said. “We service… we serve senior veterans taking them to Washington D.C. to visit their memorials built in their honor. Honor Flight Columbus has been around since 2007. And we have taken 9,300 veterans since 2007 and we’re set to have our 10,000th veteran in October.”
Any veteran who is 65 or older and has served at least one full day of active duty in the military or has served at least 20 years in the National Guard or Reserve are eligible to fill out an application to be registered for a flight.
“Thursday, March 28, is our first Honor Flight of the season,” Johnson said. “It’s mission 129 and we are having 91 veterans, 28 of them are from Muskingum and Guernsey county and so it’s just a way for them to go on their honor flight to be honored, shared and celebrated for their service.”
