Warning to Summer Travelers
The Guernsey County Sheriff’s offers a word of warning to those traveling this summer season. Recently, the Sheriff’s Office reported they’ve investigated several residential break-ins.
The Sheriff Office said they found the majority of the break-ins occur while home owners are away on vacation and have posted those plans on social media in the form of pictures or check-ins.
As a warning they urge residents to be very careful when posting this information on the internet.
They offer these tips to ensure a safe return home. These tips are from a Google article on social media.
- Never post your vacation plans before you leave: You do not need to advertise when you will be away from your home for an extended period of time.
- Never post pictures or posts while on vacation: Save the bragging for when you return
- Keep your posts private: You do not need to inform the Internet about your location and travel plans.
- Only Friend real friends: Do you personally know all 600+ friends enough to trust them not to steal from you?
