No One Located in River Search

A search of a section of the Muskingum River for a possible subject in the water yields no results.

Zanesville Fire Department spent just under an hour Monday morning searching for a man reportedly in the water, after a call came in to authorities. The caller told fire personnel they believed they saw a man near the Y-bridge wearing a white shirt with his arms over his head in the river.

The Fire Department launched their boat and searched the river from the 6th Street Bridge up to the Y-Bridge and found nothing.

"The river is pretty calm right now," said Zanesville Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Eric Waltemire. "I think we would have found them. We got the boat launched pretty quick."

Waltemire said that fire crews can launch their rescue boat in about a minute and a half. He said if someone had been in the water it’s important to get to them quickly.

"If the person is struggling to stay afloat that’s really the worse case scenario for them," said Waltemire. "When they fight the river current it hinders them. So, from their standpoint the faster we get the boats launched and get to them, especially if they’re struggling it’s important."

Although no one was located in this incident fire crews said if someone believes they see someone or something in the water they should contact authorities and let them make that determination.
