Divisional and Regional Realignment Shakes up Playoff Picture
The OHSAA announced on Wednesday the reclassification of Columbus city schools due to the closure of Brookhaven High School. What does this mean for teams from the Zanesville area? More than you might think. Let’s take a look at each region and discuss how teams coming and going will affect local teams.
*Rankings are according to Joe Eitel*
Region 5
New addition: Mifflin
The Punchers–who have only scored three points this season–make the move up from DIII to DII
Region 9
New additions: Briggs, Walnut Ridge, West
Briggs and West are both 2-1 on the season, good enough for 11th and 12th in the region, respectively. Tri-Valley and Sheridan check in at fifth and sixth with week four on the horizon. Marion-Franklin, Beechcroft and Eastmoor Academy have all left the region. Marion-Franklin won the regional championship last season over Athens.
Region 13
New additions: Beechcroft, Marion-Franklin
Division IV, region 13 just got a lot scarier. Beechcroft has taken over the top spot in the region while the Red Devils are seventh. The Maysville Panthers are now fifth.
Region 17
New additions: East, Eastmoor Academy, Linden McKinley
Like Beechcroft, Eastmoor Academy assumes the top spot in its new region. Coshocton now sits in third.
