Two Local Churches Partner Up for “Helping. Healing. Humor.” Workshop

ZANESVILLE, OH – Two Churches are partnering up to host a Mental Health Workshop.

The Norval Park Church of Christ and the Somerset Church of Christ will host the, “Helping. Healing. Humor.” workshop starting on Friday night and going until Sunday afternoon.

Scott Pfettscher, the Minister at the Somerset Church of Christ, said that two cousins, Ben Hayes and Travis Creasy, will be speaking at this weekend long event.

He said the idea to host an event like this came to him while he was reading a book one of the guest speakers wrote.

“Travis had gone through a battle with cancer and then he and his wife adopted two kids and they wrote a book,” Pfettscher said. “My wife and I, we adopted three children, and so we thought his book might be very beneficial and inside the book, there was this paper talking about how they travel and talk about mental health. Ben’s a licensed counselor and after speaking to one of deacons, one of our members at Somerset, and I know mental health is a big topic right now.”

Pfettscher said the weekend long event will start on Friday night at 7PM. The workshop will continue Saturday starting at 9:30 with a light breakfast and wrap around 2pm with lunch.

On Sunday, Ben will be speaking at Norval Park Church of Christ and Travis will be speaking at the Somerset Church of Christ.

Pfettscher said it means the world to him that these two speakers are traveling all the way to Zanesville to talk about this very important topic.

“It’s exciting, you know this is something I think is a first, I would say,” Pfettscher said. “You know we like when we can get people who are close by, when we can get people in our area and someone might say ‘Oh, I went to school with them.’, ‘I know them very well.’ ‘I see them down at the hardware store.’ and things like that. But we also know with CYC and how many people attend that event that there might be some people who recognize those individuals or have never heard them in this light talking about mental health.”
