National Teen Driver Safety Week Car Inspections

AAA was stationed in the parking lot at Zanesville High School Tuesday for National Teen Driver Safety Week.

AAA along with the State Highway Patrol and Muskingum County Safe Communities Coalition inspected students cars during the lunch hour.

"Our automotive technicians will go to the students cars, they will check light, belts, hoses, tires all of that kind of thing and the kids get to take home the inspection sheet to talk with their parents" said Emma Lindholm, Traffic Safety Program Manager for AAA.

Lindholm said that an estimated 50% of roadside calls could be prevented with proper car maintenance. This event is designed to get the high school kids cars ready for the winter. Douglas Dix, Manager of Approved Auto Repairs, said that this event is more than just checking the kids cars, but making sure they know how to take care of them and deal with issues.

"If there is something we do find in their car, especially under their hood, we will have them come out of the car and we’ll show them. If they want to know how to check their tires, things like that we show them that sort of thing."

AAA checked over 50 cars Tuesday, and will be bringing the program to close to 20 schools over the course of the year.
