New Halloween Tradition at The Masonic Temple Building

The businesses and art galleries in the Masonic Temple Building in Zanesville are joining together for a trick-or-treat event this week.

It will take place Friday, October 31 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Natasha Oliver an artist in the TAC Studio said they are not doing this to compete with Zanesville’s trick-or-treat on the 30th but to provide a safe, controlled atmosphere where kids are guaranteed to get the most out of trick-or-treat.

"There’s not a lot of participation where people are giving out the candy, so the kids could walk around for an hour and a half and end up really cold and tired and only end up with a couple pieces of candy," said Oliver. "And it ends up being quite a disappointment. This way parents can bring their kids, we can go inside there’s six floors, a lot of fun. They’ll see other kids and they’ll be able to be in a safe, controlled environment."

This is the first year for the masonic temple’s trick-or-treat, and they are hoping that it can be infectious and spawn a new Halloween tradition.

"We’ll be giving out candy from the 1st floor clear up to the 6th floor," said Oliver. "Then when you reach the 6th floor we’re doing a costume contest, we’re having a DJ, we’re giving out pumpkins, we’ll also be doing tattoos and we’re hoping that everybody will be able to make it."

There will also be a costume contest with prizes in four different age groups.
