Southeastern Ohio Legal Services Still Available in Muskingum County

Southeastern Ohio Legal Services is looking to help people with civil matters free of cost.

The Zanesville legal office recently closed and moved from Muskingum County to Licking County. The organization gives legal help without charging attorney fees to people with low income and limited assets and also to seniors. Managing attorney Dennis Harrington said they can only help people with civil law cases.

"We don’t do any criminal law because if you’re lower income, and we focus on low income people, you’re entitled to court appointed council at no costs. But if it’s a non criminal matter, we do a lot of housing, we do domestic work, family law, we do consumer, public benefits health issues, utilities, a whole variety of noncriminal matters."

Although there is no longer a fully staffed office in Muskingum County, you can still meet with an attorney by appointment without having to travel to licking county.

"Due to funding cuts, we couldn’t maintain to afford the office anymore. But, we are renting this space to meet with people by prior appointment."

You can request their services online at www.seols.org or by calling (740) 345-0850 to schedule an appointment.
