Honoring 70 Years of Service to 4-H
By J.W. Dennison
ZANESVILLE, OHIO – For 70 years, Dorothy Montgomery has volunteered for Muskingum County 4-H and the 4-H committee has several plans to honor her this year.
The first project the committee is putting together is a special scrapbook that requires help from anyone in the community who has worked with Montgomery in 4-H.
“So our county 4-H committee is asking for folks who have been impacted by Dorothy’s volunteer experience in 4-H to put together hand written notes, stories and also photos from the years that she’s been a volunteer. So we’re asking folks to submit those by July 15 to our office on Underwood Street and the goal is that once they have all of those they’re going to put together a scrapbook and present that to Dorothy when we recognize her on Sunday night of the Muskingum County Fair during our 4-H Award Ceremony,” said Jamie McConnell, the 4-H educator at the Ohio State University Muskingum County Extension Office.
The second project is a campaign to benefit the Muskingum County 4-H Endowment Fund with a $70 for 70 years donation campaign.
“Dorothy has been a great supporter of mine during that time and just an overall great supporter and advocate for the 4-H program not only in our community but out at the state level. She’s a member of the Ohio 4-H hall of fame so a lot of people know Dorothy and she’s been a great advocate for us and is always a wonderful supporter of the people that come through the program,” McConnell said.
Those interested in donating to the Muskingum County 4-h Endowment Fund can do so by visiting the extension office website or calling their office at (740) 454-0144.
