Ronald “Ron” Wright

Ronald Lee “Ron” Wright passed away unexpectedly at 6:01 PM, Monday, June 3rd at the Genesis Healthcare Emergency Room in Zanesville, Ohio. He was born in Pope County, Illinois on July 21, 1948, to Douglas D. Wright and Rettie M. (Lauderdale) Wright. Ron was one of fourteen children. He loved sharing stories of his childhood and the antics that he and his brothers got into, especially the one about taking apart the principal’s car and reassembling it on the roof of the school as a senior prank. Following high school Ron joined the Army and served during the Vietnam War era.
Ron was the proud father of Ronnie Wright, Jr. and Donnie Wright who sadly proceeded him in death at young ages. Through his travels he found what he had been missing for so long, companionship. He met the light of his life, Shelby. They would spend years together traveling, dancing, playing Bingo and enjoying each other’s company. In later years Ron took pride in caring for Shelby as she battled Alzheimer’s. After her passing he would go on to keep her memory alive by taking part in Advocacy and Awareness events through the Greater East Ohio Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. He did so through his own health issues. Ron was a true warrior and inspiration, having overcome several types of cancer, health issues and injuries. He had the determination and willpower to overcome anything that came his way. “Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first then seek to win.”
If you were lucky enough to know Ron, you were blessed with a love that was unconditional. Left to mourn his passing are his brothers Kenneth Wright of Kentucky, Roy Wright of New Hampshire; Sisters Lori Driver, Faye Noe, Martha Seevers, Mildred Howard, Teresa Hansil, all of Illinois and Marsha Dillow of Alabama; Several Nieces and Nephews; Stepchildren Tug Davis Stanbery, Chad Riffle, Bobby Davis, Rich Davis, Mike Davis, Bill Davis; Special Friends Becky Bruce, Erica Silvia, Tara McGuire and families.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Douglas and Rettie Wright; sons Ronnie Wright, Jr and Donnie Wright; brothers Donald Wright, Walter Wright, James Wright and Danny Wright; Sister Brenda Wright Hutchison; wife Shelby Garrett Wright.
It was Ron’s wish to be cremated and reunited with his beloved Shelby in a way special to him. There will be no calling hours or service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tim Combs for his care and consideration given in taking care of Ron during this difficult time. In Ron’s memory enjoy an ice-cold McDonald’s sweet tea and share one of your most favorite memories about him with a friend.
