Small Business Saturday- Encouraging You to Shop Locally

The kick-off to shopping season may have started with Black Friday, but it continued Saturday, November 29th, with Small Business Saturday.

The American Express Corporation started Small Business Saturday in 2010. The corporation created the event in hopes of encouraging shoppers to support local businesses. It now occurs the Saturday after thanksgiving each year.

"It’s very important, we’re no different then a corporation we do profit off of people. However, the big difference is that our profits are typically reinvested back into the community. They’re not going to a corporate office in another state, they’re staying right here," said Anson Brooks, owner of Three Sixty Bike Shop.

Local businesses do rely on you to stay open but they’re not the only one’s who benefit from you shopping locally. Mike Nelson who is the owner of Mike Nelson’s Frames, Flames and More says as the customer you will get one-on-one attention that big box relaters cannot provide.

"You get the personal one on one, and the effects of just being a family."

Nelson encourages people to come support their local family of small businesses while doing your holiday shopping this season.
