Council Passes Ordinance To Lease Land At Zanesville Municipal Airport
Zanesville City Council held their first meeting of the month of December Monday evening.
An ordinance allowing the city to advertise bids for the leasing of land for farming at the Zanesville Municipal Airport was up for its third reading Monday. We spoke to Jay Bennett, the city’s Public Service Director, about the ordinance.
"So what this does is rather than having the city pay its staff to kind of maintain it, keeping it cut down, keeping it safe, we up and up that option for area farmers to go out and do cutting and harvest off the resulting product."
The ordinance passed and approved by council. This will allow individuals to place bids on 80 acres of land at the airport for farming purposes. The highest bidder will be able to lease the land for 5 years. Bennett says they expect multiple bids to be placed.
"We expect there to be several interested farmers and what they will be willing to compensate the city for that, we’ll see."
Other ordinances approved by council included the providing of funds to the Zanesville Muskingum County Port Authority for organizational, promotional, and operational expenses for the coming year.
