Larry M. Paul, 87 of Zanesville, went to be with the Lord on July 3, 2024, at Genesis Hospital.

He was born on January 7, 1937, in Zanesville, son of the late Lewis J. Paul and Thelma (Miracle) Paul. Larry was a Sergeant of the United States Marines where he served for 14 years.  He served in Vietnam, where he received a Purple Heart and later served the Bay of Pigs invasion. Larry was a member of the ‘A Company 1st Battalion 1st Marine Division, Cuban Missile Crisis and E Company 2nd Battalion 9th Marines 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa.  After serving, he later worked for the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Department for 30 years, where he retired as a detective and evidence technician. Larry was a member of the American Legion Post 29 and a lifetime member at the VFW of Zanesville.  He enjoyed taking family vacations and having get togethers on the weekends. In his spare time, Larry enjoyed a good round of golf with his good friend, Dan Marks. Above all, Larry loved spending time with his friends, family, and his neighbors.

Larry is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marcia (Gregg) Paul; grandchildren, Jeremy (Jennifer) Ball, Matthew (Katie) Rice, Keith (Autumn) Rice; great grandchildren, Brice (Sharalyn), Ellie, Nick, Chris, Hannah, Lainey, Brynleigh, Raelyn, Kane; great-great-grandchildren, Garrett, Emma, and Waylon; nephews, Paul (Kathy) Warne, David Swank, Danny Swank, Donnie Swank; niece, Deborah (Ron) Kelly; many special friends; several great nieces, nephews, and many cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Rice; great grandson, Isaac; sisters, Norma (Walter) Warne and Marcellene (Bob) Swank.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday July 10, 2024, from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home, where services will be held at 2:00 PM with Rev. Darren Tolbert officiating. Per Larry’s wishes, a dignified cremation will take place following services. He will later be laid to rest at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
