Dr. David Mitzel Surprised at Retirement Party

This Friday the Masonic Temple ballroom was filled with food, music, and mingling for a surprise retirement party.

Many Zanesville locals came out to celebrate the retirement of Dr. David Mitzel who was formally the Muskingum County Community Foundation CEO. Mitzel was a pillar in the community bringing in millions of dollars in assets for the foundation, and dedicating over 20 years of his life to the position.

“He took the foundation from an organization that had about six million dollars in assets when it really started being well over 20 million in assets,” stated current MCCF CEO Brian Wagner. “So much has been able to be put back into the community because of the hard work that he’s put into it.”

The party was designed as a surprise retirement party because Mitzel always claimed that, “You can’t keep a secret in Zanesville.” So just how did this surprise party fare? Well, it’s safe to say Mitzel was at a loss for words.

“Totally shocked,” stated Mitzel. “I just couldn’t believe it. I walked in and it was like everybody i know, what happened here, how did they pull this off?”

Dr. David Mitzel and friends celebrated late into the evening Friday, and here at WHIZ we wish Dr. Mitzel all the best and a happy and relaxing retirement.
