Bodies Identified in Maysville Pike Pond Accident
Recovery efforts for a vehicle that swerved off the road and into an icy pond off of Maysville Pike have come to a close.
Around 3:30 p.m. today, almost 24 hours after the search began, a crane with magnets was able to find and bring to the surface a 98′ Black Sunfire Pontiac GT.
“Our goal was to try to initially recover the bodies last night, but we were unable to do that,” stated Bo Keck, Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency Director. “So of course today we were able to. They were very safe slow, but they needed to be slow, and everybody came out okay as far as the crews. There were two bodies recovered in the car. ”
Late last night, the vehicle’s license plate did wash up on shore. The two people in the vehicle were identified as 26 year old Ashley Orwig of East Fultonham, and 32 year old Dustin Miller of Zanesville. The family members of the victims were on scene to identify the bodies after they were pulled from the water.
“The family insisted on being there, and they’ve been here some of them here last night and they’ve been here today,” stated Keck.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
