Bullied 10-Year-Old Wants To Help Others
The numbers are startling, according to the National Education Association 160,000 children miss school every day due to fear of attack or intimidation by other students.
One little girl who understands all too well the feelings that accompany being bullied is 10-year-old Mikaila Hanna. On October 9th, Hanna was reportedly touched inappropriately by two boys on a school bus trip. She reported the incident, but the harassment didn’t stop there.
“They began to call her bad names, and say she was pregnant, one little girl that was the boys friends spit in her lunch,” Said Hanna’s Mom, Jessica Dawson.
Mikaila stated, “She forced me to eat it.”
“They told Mikaila that she should kill herself,” said Mikaila’s Dad, Scott Albaugh.
Mikaila’s struggle with bullying became so difficult that she was forced to change schools. However, she wouldn’t let her bullies take her down. Instead Mikaila has decided to help others, by sharing her story and speaking out against this injustice.
“Mikaila, she came to me and said she wanted to be the voice for other children that are scared to stand up,” said Dawson. “She’s asked me this for several weeks and I finally said ‘okay,’ and it’s been part of her healing.”
According the Mikaila, she got her strength and courage from her parents, “My mom taught me to be a good person, and my dad taught me to stand up for myself, and be honest and truthful.”
Mikaila and her family are in the process of speaking with Big Brothers and Sisters to have Mikaila come in as a guest speaker. Mikaila says she just wants to help those who have been through a similar experience.
If you or someone you know is a victim of bullying tell an adult as soon as possible. And remember, you are not alone.
