Overdose Awareness and Prevention Community Event

ZANESVILLE, OH- Over 30 community partners have teamed up with the Zanesville – Muskingum County Health Department to put on an overdose awareness and prevention community event.

The event is open to anyone and will feature family friendly activities, educational booths, agencies like The Wilds and Y on the Fly, food, a Dj, and the chance to make a light to place outside of the courthouse in memory of someone lost to an overdose.

“Bringing the community together I think is important for prevention, for the stigma that is associated with substance use disorder. I think that the way to prevent this is starting at the foundation with the family, so showing our family some strong things that we have in the community to do. I know the library is going to be here, the Wilds, you know things that families can do to build strong families, if this would happen to a family down the road they’ll have some resources they can use,” said Family Advocate, Monica Batteiger

If you would like to make a light for a loved one you can pre-register for a light kit by calling the health department, remaining supplies will be first come first serve. Lights will be able to be picked up during their Together We Can Be The Light event.

“I am the mother of a child so it’s kind of personal for me, it’s important to me to have it, I love doing it, it’s the fourth year,” said Batteiger.

The event will take place in the parking lot of the health department on Monday, August 26th from 6 to 8 pm. For more information, please visit the Zanesville – Muskingum County Health Department Website.
