Generous Donation Brings Kennel Upgrades to The Animal Shelter Society

ZANESVILLE, OH – The Animal Shelter Society is wagging its tails with excitement. A generous donation is helping to improve the lives of their furry residents in a big way.

The shelter recently received a $20,000 donation from John and Kelly Kappes to upgrade their outdoor kennels by adding roofing. These funds will provide dogs with more protection from the weather, giving them a safe, comfortable space to play and relax while they wait to be adopted.

“We have an outside kennel area, and it was very difficult to have them out there because of the heat and the elements of the weather. So, John approached me and said, ‘why don’t we have roofing over this so they can be out more?’ I said absolutely. So, we started that project,” Animal Shelter Society Executive Director April Gibson said.

“Kelly and I really, really appreciate the work that they do. April and her staff do a wonderful job with their facility. They work tirelessly to rehabilitate animals and place them within the community and within homes that would love to have a furry pet. Please come down and support April and The Animal Shelter Society, they’re a wonderful organization and they have our full support,” John Kappes said.

This kind of support makes such a positive impact on dogs like Sadie Mae, who is this week’s Pet of The Week. Sadie Mae is a one-and-a-half-year-old female Weimaraner, who is ready to find her forever home.

“She’s very friendly, she doesn’t have any negativities with her. She’s not too aggressive. The only thing we want to be careful of is any young children in the home because she is a 60-pound dog and still a puppy,” Gibson said.
