Gas Prices Hit $1.71 In South Zanesville
It wasn’t that long ago that drivers were complaining about the high price of gasoline. Well, Friday there are no complaints as gas prices have hit the lowest they’ve been since 2010.
In South Zanesville gas prices could be seen as low as $1.71, making it a great day for SUV, and truck drivers to fill up their tanks.
“I’m a lot happier with the way the gas prices are now than what they have been in the past years,” said Adamsville resident, Tyler Perdue. “Since I drive a truck with a V-8 in it, it doesn’t get the best of gas mileage, so it helps with the gas prices lower. Pay less, get more gallons.”
The reason for the rapid decrease in gas cost is largely due to the cost of crude oil in the United States. According to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries or, OPEC, in June, 2014 a barrel of U.S. benchmark crude oil cost upward of $100.00. By Christmas that number had fallen to $50.00 and has continued to decline ever since. The result, low prices at the pump.
“I bought my truck, gas prices were $3.00, or $3.50 when I bought it,” stated Perdue. “So the gas prices then didn’t really effect me much, but it does make it easier with them being down in the $1.70 range to make me want to drive more, come in town more. I live further out so with the gas prices lower it makes it easier to drive into town.”
