Two Separate Fatal Accidents in Fairfield County

Fairfield County- The Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating two separate fatal crashes.
The first took place Thursday just before 3pm on State Route 188 near mile post 11, in Hocking Township in Fairfield County.
The patrol said 44-year-old Avon J.G. Stokes of Lancaster was operating a 2008 Chevrolet Impala west on State Route 188 when he failed to negotiate a curve. He then overcorrected, crossed the center line, traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned. Stokes was pronounced deceased on scene by the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, Lancaster Police Department, Hocking Township Fire Department, Berne Township Fire Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office.
The second accident took place just before 1am Friday on Lithopolis Road near Mount Zion Road, in Greenfield Township in Fairfield County.
37-year-old Brian Swank, of Lancaster was operating a 2020 Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Lithopolis Road when he failed to negotiate a curve. He then traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a ditch, and an embankment before overturning. Mr. Swank was pronounced deceased on scene by the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office, and Greenfield Township EMS.
Both accidents are under investigation.
