Zanesville, OH- The annual Veterans Day Parade is just days away, but if you’re planning to watch this Saturday, there are some changes you’ll want to know before heading downtown.

The parade begins Saturday, November 7, at 11 a.m. Instead of traveling down Main Street as in years past, the parade will follow a new route through Zanesville.

“With what’s been going on downtown, all the wonderful improvements that are happening, we had to make a little bit of a change to the route, so for those that are coming down to watch the parade, the route will be Market Street, from 4th to 5th Street, then down 5th Street to South, so rather than coming down Main Street like we have in the past, the parade is going to go past Main Street, down to South Street, then turn down South Street back to 3rd Street,” said Veterans Day Parade Committee Chairman Brent Mirgon.

Day of registration and line up for participants is also moving. Instead of Secrest Auditorium, registration will take place at the corner of 4th and Market streets. Organizers currently have around 70 entries, with registration remaining open through Thursday. Those interested can sign up through the Downtown Zanesville website or stop by the welcome center to fill out a form.

“I just love to see the community come out, I love to see all the creativity with the parade, the floats, the different stuff that happens, and just the overall patriotism that’s shown, supporting our veterans, showing them what they mean to us and then just seeing the community come together like that is always kind of the hair that stands up on the back of my neck kind of feeling,” said Mirgon.

As the community comes together to honor local veterans, drivers and spectators are reminded to use caution Saturday. Watch for traffic barriers, pedestrians, and parade participants as you make your way through the area.
