Zanesville Advocates Push for Fair Elections with Issue 1
ZANESVILLE, OH – We Are Ohio and Union Strong held a meeting in Zanesville Thursday, rallying support for Issue 1, which advocates for fair districts and elections in Ohio.
The meeting took place at the John McIntire Library and brought together workers, labor leaders, and good government advocates. Issue 1 is focused on ending gerrymandering and creating fairer districts across Ohio.
“I think it’s really exciting. I mean, people have been working on trying to fix the problem with gerrymandering in Ohio for many years, but this is the first time that we have a real chance of passing a citizens redistrict and commission that completely removes politicians from the picture.” Associate Director Common Cause Ohio Mia Lewis said.
Supporters emphasized how important it is for voters to vote “yes” on Issue 1 in the upcoming election, as they believe this change is necessary for a more transparent and fair electoral process.
“The biggest thing is, make sure voters know to vote “yes.” There’s going to be a lot of misinformation out there to try sway what they’re voting for. Vote “yes” because it’s going to stop the gerrymandering and put the power back into the voters and not the politicians.” UMWA Coordinator Ohio COMPAC Dave Dilly said.
“There’s a lot of misinformation about this. From the amendment that, as it was presented to the election board, the language in it got rearranged and really, there’s some very misleading language in there. If you want to end gerrymandering in Ohio, you need to vote “yes.” President of Southeast Ohio Central Labor Council Ted Linscott said.
