Super Tax Prep Saturday
Saturday, the United Way held its eighth Super Tax Prep Saturday of the year.
The United Way holds tax classes four days a week, but impact coordinator, Amy Davis, says super Saturdays are bigger events.
“This is where clients come in and they sit down with a volunteer and they e-file their state and federal tax returns absolutely free of charge,” said Davis. “It take about an hour. They help, the volunteer helps the client put the information into the software and it’s a free program, it’s web based and then at the end of the day everything is filed and they don’t have to worry about anything.”
These tax clinics are designed for people filing for basic returns. The United Way cannot help file for businesses or self employment. Davis stresses that those they help do get to keep their entire return, which for many is extremely valuable.
“We’ve had people who have used that refund to have their cars fixed so they can continue to go to work, or to pay bills, medical bills, one year we had a lady who, she didn’t get much but she didn’t have to pay to get it done either for her simple return, and she used it to visit family members in another state that she hadn’t seen for a couple of years.”
Tax prep events are scheduled by appointment and if you would like to make an appointment with a United Way volunteer to help file your tax return you can call (740) 454-6874.
