Abbot Senior Living ‘Feeding The Birds’
Since their doors opened in 1947 Abbot Senior Living has never held a community fundraiser. Due to changing times they are now asking for your help.
Abbot Senior Living has partnered with the Wild Birds Unlimited for a birdseed fundraiser. They are selling top quality birdseed and $5.00 from each bag purchased will go back to Abbot.
“We are very excited because when we tried to come up with a fundraiser we wanted to do something that would be meaning full and Mrs. Chandler who’s property we’re sitting on, she gave us to build our facility on, had a bird sanctuary in the back. So when when we decided to come up with a fundraiser we decided to sell bird seed,” said Executive Director of Abbot Senior Living, Jane Thompson.
Abbot Senior Living is a non-profit organization. They provide housing and non-medical services for senior, and those costs are not cheap.
“We provide three meals a day so I have that food cost, and I have 45 residents that I have to feed so it’s important that we keep up with that. Upkeep to a building this age, a small hole in a pipe that someone will think oh that will be $300-$400 usually turns into about $3,000 or $4,000,” stated Thompson.
