Election Day Etiquette
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Tuesday, marks the official voting day for the 2024 General election.
Muskingum County Board of Elections Specialist Cheryl West shared some last minute voting tips that registered voters can use to improve their election day experience.
“You would need to go to your polling location on the 5th if you’re still wanting to vote,” West said. “Hours are 6:30 in the morning to 7:30 at night. If you have still ballots at your home that you received by mail, those need to be the ones that you use if you haven’t voted it yet, you need to vote them. And then if you’re going to mail them back to the office, they would need to be postmarked by today, which is November the 4th. If you’re going to plan on dropping it off at the office, then you need to have them at our office, in our drop box by 7:30 election night.”
West recommended that voters Google their county’s board of elections ahead of time to access their county board of elections website to find voting locations, proper ID and ballot specifics. She also suggested further online research to better understand the issue-outcomes and the candidates’ positions. She added that easier voter verification and informed voting decisions help to make the waiting lines shorter for everyone.
“If you go to your polls and decide to vote, just make sure you have the right identification with you,” West said. “That changed here a little while ago and it has to be a valid, unexpired, photo ID. and those examples of those are driver’s licenses, the state ID Card, a U.S. passport, a U.S. passport card, U.S. military ID, Ohio National Guard ID and a U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs ID. Those are the ones that voters are allowed to use.”
Tuesday’s in-person voting will only be conducted at your assigned polling location and absentee ballots will only be collected until 7:30 p.m. from the designated drop box at the board of elections office.
