Mayor’s Year End Review

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – 2024 has been, in general, a positive year for the City of Zanesville.

Mayor Don Mason took a moment to recall some of the things that happened during 2024 with a year-end-review summary.

“Well I’m pleased that we were able to work on some of our highest priorities. I would say housing, new construction, rehabilitation, continues to be high priorities,” Mason said. “Another one of our biggest priorities was improvements in the downtown. And with many new local businesses, including Taste of Ohio and all the businesses of Downtown Exchange, we’ve helped to bring more lively activity into our downtown.”

Mayor Mason praised multiple area agencies for their cooperation with the city’s strategic improvement accomplishments. He also outlined several municipal goals slated for 2025.

“I’d be completely remiss if I didn’t talk about how exciting it was to have Dug Road put under construction this year and it’s about a $6.5 million project,” Mason said. “We hit some snags only because the landslide continued to slip, which actually proved the point that we had to stabilize the embankment. Not just between the road and the river but the road and the park above. That project should finish up somewhere in May of 2025.”

Mason believes the city is worth investing in and announced other projects such as refurbishing and renovating the parks, revitalizing Secrest Auditorium and continuing improvements to the transportation infrastructure.
